Ways To Help Your Teeth Appear Straighter

Posted on

Having straighter teeth can significantly improve the look of your smile. Teeth that are properly aligned help the smile to appear more uniform and balanced.

Still, many people suffer from crooked teeth. If your teeth are not as straight as you would like them to be, you may be looking for ways to improve their appearance.

Here are a few things that you can do to help your teeth appear straighter.

Wear Braces

Braces and other orthodontic devices are designed to properly align the teeth. Conventional braces use a combination of brackets, elastic bands, and archwires to straighten the teeth.

The bands connect the archwire to the brackets of the braces. As a result, as adjustments are made to the archwire, the resulting force is transferred to the brackets and consequently to the teeth. Once the teeth have adjusted to the current configuration of the archwire, additional adjustments are made to continue the alignment process.

If traditional braces are not preferred because of the appearance of the metal brackets, other alignment options may be suitable. Braces may be selected with ceramic brackets that are not as easily noticed. Additionally, lingual braces may be used to the straighten the teeth. Lingual braces are placed on the back, or lingual, side of the teeth, so they are not seen on the front of the teeth.

Plastic aligners, such as Invisalign, may also be available to patients who have a moderate to mild dental misalignment. The aligners are clear, and thus they are difficult to discern in the mouth.

Get Veneers

Dental veneers are placed on the front of the teeth to conceal underlying imperfections, such as mild misalignment. The thickness, color, and size of each veneer is customized based on the needs of the patient. Each veneer is designed to improve the look of the tooth that it covers. However, collectively, a set of veneers gives the illusion of straight, uniform teeth.

Before veneers can be placed, the teeth must be prepared for the application. A small amount of tooth material is removed from the front of the teeth to ensure that the veneers still look natural after their placement.

In addition to correcting the alignment of the teeth, other cosmetic issues, such as discoloration, chips, and cracks, are also concealed by the veneers.

If your teeth are misaligned, contact a cosmetic dentist to find out the best treatment option for your individual needs.
